BNWAS regulation is now in effect and ship-owners worldwide are installing the Bridge Navigation Watch Alarm Systems.

Attached is the IMO resolution regarding BNWAS along with a typical bridge requirement and layout and system to fit different bridge sizes. The resolution states;

A bridge navigational watch alarm system (BNWAS) installed prior to 1 July 2011 may subsequently be exempted from full compliance with the standards adopted by the Organization, at the discretion of the Administration..

The way to save!

Fitting early will allow cheaper solutions for vessels if fitted before 1/1/2011. Why? Less components are needed as well as less connections to bridge equipments which will result in less Technical installation time.

Installation cost will play a significant part of the costs and this is why fitting early should reduce the work required. Installation can largely be handled by crew with only SVDR, GPS and Autopilot connections possibly needing professional installation (this is best combined with another vessel visit by appropriate personnel). These systems can be tailored to add more or less units if required.
