Mr Aage Hempel formed the company in 1933 in Denmark. The main activities after its formation were the importation of steel, batteries, meat and other commodities. Mr Hempel’s brother formed the Hempel paint company. Mr Aage Hempel died in 1983 and his wife ran the business for 2 years until she also died. They had one son but actually willed the company to a Danish foundation (a charity). In 1992 and under some pressure from Maersk, Aage Hempel Spain was opened with a small office in Algeciras. The present General Manager joined as a technician in 1993 and over the years along with the whole team in Spain has built the company into what it is today. Aage Hempel Spain was purely a service company which enabled us to successfully acquire many service agreements with most of the major Marine Electronic Manufacturers. In 2008 this changed due to much pressure from ship owners and Manufacturers alike and we formed a Sales department which is growing very steadily. In 1999 there was a Management buy out and the 2 new owners steadily grew the company until in 2008 it was sold to the present owners who are the Arbulu Group, a company also involved in the Marine Electronics Industry in Spain. This large Spanish Group now numbers almost 250 people. Along the years Aage Hempel also grew internationally with the following offices now forming a part of the family: 1999 Aage Hempel Gibraltar Ltd 2005 Aage Hempel Morocco Ltd 2010 Aage Hempel Malta ( February) 2010 Aage Hempel Portugal ( October) 2012 Aage Hempel Panama (January) 2013 Aage Hempel Rotterdam (January) Other new offices are on the drawing board but we will allow some time in order to have the administration of the new offices fully in place before any further expansion.
